Which surface finishes enhance corrosion resistance of mesh panels?

Surface finishing is crucial to prolonging the lifespan and appearance of aluminum mesh panels in demanding environments. The most widely used corrosion-resistant finish is architectural anodizing, which creates a hard, oxide layer on the aluminum surface. Class I anodizing (≥ 25 µm) offers excellent resistance to abrasion, humidity, and UV exposure, making it suitable for coastal and industrial applications. For broader color options and enhanced chemical resistance, consider a high-performance polyester or fluoropolymer (PVDF) powder coat applied at a minimum thickness of 60–80 µm. PVDF finishes meet AAMA 2605 standards, delivering outstanding color retention, gloss retention, and overall durability in extreme climates. An alternative is electrostatic wet paint systems followed by a clear acrylic topcoat, which can achieve AAMA 2604 compliance for moderate durability needs. Ensure pre-treatment steps—such as chromate conversion or phosphating—are performed to guarantee coating adhesion. Finally, for interior applications where corrosion is less severe, simple polyester powder coatings (AAMA 2603) may suffice. By matching panel location and exposure conditions with the appropriate finish standard, aluminum mesh panels can maintain structural integrity and aesthetic appeal over long service lives.
