Choosing the right thickness of aluminum composite panels (ACP) for high-rise facades is critical to meet structural, aesthetic, and maintenance requirements. Wind loads on tall buildings generate significant pressure and suction; panels that are too thin risk excessive deflection or permanent deformation. At PRANCE, we generally recommend 4 mm panels for mid-rise (up to 10 stories) and 5–6 mm for towers above 20 stories, as these gauges provide a balance of stiffness and manageable weight.

Beyond wind, impact resistance (from debris or maintenance equipment) and acoustic insulation contribute to thickness selection. Thicker panels inherently offer better vibration damping and allow deeper bonding of the core material, improving sound attenuation. However, heavier panels increase dead load on support structures and elevate installation costs. We collaborate with structural engineers to run finite-element analyses of panel behavior under simulated wind and seismic loads. This data-driven approach ensures panels meet code deflection limits (L/240 or better) while maintaining slim wall profiles.
