Standard T-bar grids are insufficient for fire-rated ceilings, as they lack heat-activated closure mechanisms. Fire-rated systems employ suspension clips or hangers fitted with fusible links calibrated to melt at around 74 °C, allowing panels or blocks to drop slightly and close gaps, preventing flame passage. Fire rods—steel rods with intumescent cores—expand under heat to seal the void. Both accessories are integrated into galvanized or stainless steel main runners and cross tees. The grid profile, spacing (often 400 mm or 600 mm centers), and link/l rod locations mirror tested layouts. Some systems incorporate fire-resistant gasket seals within the grid flange for additional integrity. Always specify a complete grid and link kit from a single manufacturer, ensuring the assembly matches fire test reports.
