Polycarbonate igloo cabins for cold climates require high-performance insulation to maintain comfort and minimize energy use. The dome shell uses 16 mm multiwall polycarbonate panels with UV-stabilized layers, offering an R-value around R-1.8. Behind this shell, we install closed-cell polyurethane spray foam directly onto the aluminum ribs, filling cavities and sealing air leaks; this adds an additional R-3.5. Interior wall finishes—FSC-certified plywood—cover mineral wool batts that boost the assembly to R-4. For the floor, rigid polyisocyanurate panels sit atop a thermally broken aluminum subframe, delivering R-6 underfoot. All aluminum frame intersections incorporate insulating polyamide thermal breaks to prevent conductive heat loss. Windows are triple-glazed insulated glass units with krypton gas fill and warm-edge spacers. Doors are prehung, insulated units with weatherstripping rated to −30 °C. Together, these layers achieve an overall U-value of 0.2 W/m²K, ensuring efficient heating and minimal condensation in subzero environments.
