PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
Not all ceiling tiles are fire rated—but many aluminum ceiling tiles are manufactured and tested to achieve fire-resistance classifications when installed as part of a complete assembly. Fire-rated ceiling tiles incorporate core materials, surface treatments, and sometimes integrated fire-retardant additives that resist heat and slow flame spread. To verify fire performance, tiles are tested in accordance with recognized standards such as UL 790 (Surface Burning Characteristics) or ASTM E84, yielding flame spread and smoke‐developed indexes. For true fire resistance, tiles must be paired with a compatible aluminum suspension grid and perimeter trim that have also been tested together under UL 263 or ASTM E119 for hourly ratings. In commercial installations, specifying a complete fire-rated ceiling system ensures regulatory compliance and occupant safety. Always confirm that both tile and grid are included on the manufacturer’s fire‐resistance directory listing, and follow installation instructions precisely to maintain the rated performance over the life of the building.
