What open area ratio suits acoustic absorption versus ventilation?
A lower open area generally leaves more metal face, while acoustic absorption depends mainly on the perforation, backing, insulation, cavity, and mounting. A higher open area can support airflow but does not by itself establish an NRC value. Select the ratio from the required acoustic and ventilation calculations.

Does a perforated panel need backing to actually absorb sound?
Yes. Perforations alone do not establish useful sound absorption. A perforated panel normally works with an absorptive backing and an air cavity, and the complete construction should be tested or calculated for the required frequency range.

What's the minimum hole size relative to panel thickness?
There is no universal hole-size-to-thickness ratio. The workable minimum depends on alloy, sheet thickness, hole shape, pitch, open area, punching or laser process, edge distance, and finish. Confirm the ratio with the fabricator for the selected material.

CNC punching or laser cutting, which is better for large orders?
CNC punching is often more efficient for high-volume repeated hole patterns, while laser cutting is more flexible for complex patterns and low-volume or highly customized work. Compare tooling, cycle time, edge quality, tolerance, heat effects, and finishing requirements.

Round holes generally provide a regular appearance and predictable punching behavior; square holes change the visual rhythm and can provide different open-area geometry; custom patterns support branding or airflow studies but may require special tooling or laser cutting. Compare open area, edge distance, rigidity, and cost.

Does a higher open area ratio weaken the panel's structural rigidity?
Yes, removing more material generally reduces net stiffness and strength, although the effect depends on hole shape, pitch, sheet thickness, returns, supports, and framing. Check the perforated panel as an engineered component for the design loads.
