Decorative exterior aluminum wall panels are engineered to resist heavy rain and wind loads when specified and installed correctly. Start by choosing panels tested per ASTM E330 (uniform static air pressure) and ASTM E331 (water penetration). Quality panels often achieve wind load resistance up to ±3600 Pa and remain watertight under 300 Pa positive pressure.
Use a pressure‐equalized rainscreen system: exterior panels deflect bulk water, while the cavity behind balances pressure to prevent forced water ingress. Provide drainage paths and weep vents at panel bottoms. Seal joints with high-performance gaskets or structural silicone to maintain weather tightness under building movement.
Wind loads vary by building height, exposure category, and geographic location. For driving rain resistance, ensure facade tilt angles exceed 5° where possible, and detail coping and flashing above openings.
