PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
While ACM wall panels can be installed without base trim in certain interior ceiling applications, exterior aluminum facade systems generally require base trim or flashing at the panel’s lower edge. Base trim serves multiple purposes: it conceals raw composite panel edges, directs water away from the building envelope, and accommodates panel movement due to thermal expansion.
Exterior base trims are typically aluminum profiles that integrate with the rainscreen framing. They anchor to the support structure, creating a drip edge that prevents moisture migration behind panels. A rubber gasket or back-primed joint filler is often used between the panel and trim to seal against air and water infiltration. For interior ceilings, base trim may be omitted if panels are butted into structural soffits, though aesthetic edge profiles are still common.
When specifying base trim, select profiles compatible with the panel thickness and finish. Ensure continuous support under the panel’s lower edge to prevent sagging. Properly installed base trims extend panel life, maintain performance, and deliver the crisp, linear appearance integral to aluminum ceiling and facade designs.
