Curtain walls are an excellent platform for integrating ventilation and shading strategies that respond to Middle Eastern environmental conditions. Operable vents, trickle vents and ventilated double-skin façades can be incorporated into curtain wall design to provide controlled natural ventilation during milder seasons, reducing mechanical cooling loads in locations such as Amman or Beirut. External shading devices—fixed fins, adjustable louvers, and motorized sunshades—are easily mounted to or integrated within aluminum framing to control direct sun and glare on south- and west-facing façades. Automated shading tied to daylight and temperature sensors optimizes comfort while minimizing HVAC energy. Double-skin façades create a ventilated buffer that pre-cools incoming air and improves thermal comfort without sacrificing daylight. Coordination of these systems during early design phases ensures effective structural support, maintenance access and integration with building controls, delivering a façade that contributes actively to a building’s thermal and daylighting strategy.
