How do different core materials affect ACP panel performance?
The core material in ACP panels dictates key performance attributes. Standard polyethylene (PE) cores offer cost-effective, lightweight panels but have poor fire resistance. Fire-retardant (FR) cores blend PE with mineral fillers, enhancing flame resistance to meet Class B/BS1d0 ratings. Non-combustible mineral cores (A2) eliminate polymer content entirely, achieving top fire performance (EN 13501-1 A2).
Beyond fire, denser mineral cores improve rigidity, reducing deflection under wind or seismic loads—beneficial for large spans. They also enhance acoustic insulation and thermal resistance, with higher R-values per panel. However, mineral cores add weight and cost.
FR cores strike a balance: moderate fire rating, improved stiffness over PE, and manageable weight.
