PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
Blocking impact and airborne noise between commercial floors demands a multi-layered ceiling solution. A double-leaf system features two separate metal ceiling planes: the upper plane hung from the deck carries insulation, while the lower plane provides the visible finish. Both planes are decoupled using resilient channels or acoustic hangers with rubber isolators, preventing vibration transfer. Between the planes, fill cavities with high-density mineral wool (80 kg/m³) to absorb airborne noise. Seal all perimeter gaps and service penetrations with acoustic sealant and putty pads around ducts and pipes. Incorporate acoustic access panels and use perimeter acoustic foam to maintain integrity. Optionally, add a mass-loaded vinyl layer above the first ceiling plane for extra mass. This approach can achieve STC values above 60 and IIC ratings above 55, effectively isolating offices, hotel rooms, and studios. Careful detailing at walls and penetrations ensures continuous sound barrier across the entire floor assembly.
