PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
A fire rated suspended ceiling is a dropped ceiling assembly designed to meet fire-resistance requirements when tested as a complete unit under UL 263 or ASTM E119. In aluminum systems, fire-rated performance comes from specialized ceiling tiles or planks with noncombustible cores and surface treatments, combined with an aluminum suspension grid, hangers, and perimeter trim that have all been tested together. During fire testing, the assembly must limit heat transfer, structural deformation, and flame passage for the certified duration—often 1-hour or 2-hour. Fire collars or intumescent sealants seal openings for lights, diffusers, and cables. Manufacturers publish listing numbers and installation instructions that detail hanger spacing, grid layout, and sealing methods. When properly installed, a fire rated suspended ceiling enhances horizontal compartmentation, supports fire detection and suppression systems, and contributes to occupant safety in commercial and institutional buildings.
