What Is Curtain Wall Construction?

Curtain wall construction involves fabricating and installing prefabricated modules consisting of aluminum framing members and insulated glass units. In the stick-built approach, individual mullions, transoms, and infill panels are assembled on site. In contrast, unitized systems are assembled in the factory as complete modules and lifted into place. During installation, brackets secure the frames to floor slabs or columns, and gaskets seal panel joints. Weep holes and pressure-equalized chambers prevent water intrusion.
