PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
You need a fire rated drop ceiling grid when the ceiling assembly is part of a horizontal fire separation or when local building codes mandate an hourly fire‐resistance rating for the space below. Typical scenarios include ceilings above exit corridors, stairwells, elevator lobbies, and corridors in high-rise or healthcare buildings. In these cases, both the ceiling tiles and the aluminum suspension grid, main runners, cross tees, and hangers must be listed together in a UL 263 or ASTM E119 fire‐resistance directory. The fire rated grid components are engineered to maintain their shape and support tiles during fire exposure, preventing ceiling collapse and helping contain smoke and flames. Review project specifications and applicable IBC or NFPA code sections to determine if a fire rated grid is required, then select an aluminum grid system with the appropriate listing number to ensure full compliance.
