PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
A ceiling must be fire rated when it serves as the underside of a floor-ceiling assembly requiring a fire‐resistance rating, or when codes mandate fire separation in specific areas. Examples include ceilings above exit enclosures, corridors, stair shafts, elevator hoistways, and between tenant spaces with fire barriers extending to the deck above. High-rise buildings and certain occupancies (healthcare, schools, assembly) often require fire-rated ceilings in corridors and service areas. Fire resistance is also required where ductwork or shafts penetrate rated floor assemblies. Aluminum ceiling systems achieve ratings by combining fire-resistant tiles or planks with a matching suspension grid and sealing methods, all tested in a complete assembly under UL 263 or ASTM E119. Consult local building and fire codes, as well as the Authority Having Jurisdiction, to identify when ceilings need a fire rating and to select the correct aluminum fire-rated system.
