PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
A ceiling needs to be fire rated when it forms part of a prescribed fire‐resistance assembly or when local regulations require protection of exit routes and fire barriers. Under the International Building Code (IBC), ceilings below corridors, stair enclosures, elevator lobbies, and fire barrier walls generally require hourly ratings (1- to 2-hour). Healthcare, educational, and high-rise occupancies have additional ceiling rating requirements above protected corridors and shafts. Fire rated ceilings are also required under dampers and shafts that penetrate fire-resistance rated floors. Aluminum ceiling systems meet these needs when specified as a UL 263 or ASTM E119 tested assembly, combining fire-resistant tiles, suspension grid, and sealing materials. Always check project code requirements and approved listings to ensure the chosen aluminum ceiling system meets the necessary fire rating for the intended application.
