PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
While aluminum itself does not absorb water or corrode, drop ceiling tiles installed in wet zones require careful specification and detailing to achieve full waterproof performance. Standard mill-finish or powder-coated aluminum panels resist moisture but may allow water passage through grid joints and perimeter gaps. To create a truly waterproof ceiling, specify panels with factory-applied epoxy or PVDF coatings rated for immersion, and install closed-cell foam gaskets around each panel perimeter to seal against suspended drizzle or steam. Secondary waterproof membranes above the grid can capture leaks before they reach the occupied space. For high-moisture areas—indoor pools, shower rooms, or industrial wash bays—select aluminum panels with sealed joints and positive water drainage designs that channel condensation or spray toward dedicated drains. Access panels should include integrated compression gaskets and quick-release clamps to maintain seal integrity during removal. Properly detailed, an aluminum drop ceiling can meet IPX4 or higher ingress protection ratings, ensuring resistance to splashing water. However, designers must account for plumbing maintenance access and condensation management in the plenum to preserve long-term waterproof performance.
