PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
From our perspective as an aluminum ceiling manufacturer supplying projects in Dubai, Muscat and Jeddah, aluminum plank ceilings generally provide higher durability and easier maintenance than many slat ceiling systems—especially where humidity and coastal salt exposure are concerns. Plank ceilings are typically continuous or tightly joined panels that can be provided in thicker gauges, with full edge protection and factory-applied corrosion-resistant coatings (e.g., high-grade anodizing or PVDF), which makes them robust against moisture ingress and salt spray found along the Gulf and Red Sea coasts. Slat ceilings—while visually appealing for linear aesthetics—often include more exposed edges, gaps and multiple small components where moisture and dust can accumulate, increasing maintenance needs and the chance of corrosion if lower-grade steel components are used. If slats are specified in aluminum and with proper marine-grade hardware, they will perform well; however many slat systems in the region still use steel carriers or clips that require sacrificial protection. Thermal cycling in desert environments can cause differential expansion; plank systems with engineered expansion joints and wider profiles better accommodate thermal movement without apparent gaps or warping. For projects in Riyadh where humidity is lower but temperature swings are wide, both systems can perform if metal grade and coating are correct. Ultimately, for coastal hospitality and public projects we recommend aluminum plank ceilings with marine-grade finishes and stainless steel or aluminum suspension components for the lowest lifecycle maintenance.
