PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
The vaulted ceiling, or techo abovedado, introduces dramatic spatial effects but presents unique challenges when executed in modern metal systems. Structurally, curved profiles demand precise engineering of aluminum extrusions and sub-frame geometry to achieve smooth, uniform arcs without visible distortion. The framing grid must accommodate radial clip patterns and variable panel lengths, increasing fabrication complexity compared to flat ceilings. Integration of HVAC, lighting, and fire-suppression components under a curved surface requires bespoke mounting brackets and flexible duct transitions, adding coordination effort for engineers and installers. Moisture management is critical: curvature can create hidden pockets where condensation or debris may accumulate, so we often specify sealed joints and concealed weep channels to maintain a clean plenum. Achieving seamless finishes on convex and concave surfaces calls for tight tolerances during powder coating or anodizing; custom masking and spraying setups are necessary to avoid finish irregularities. Finally, transportation of large curved panels or on-site bending of smaller strips must be planned carefully to prevent damage. When these challenges are managed through collaborative design-build processes, vaulted metal ceilings become striking, enduring features of modern architecture.
