PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
Balancing transparency and privacy in curtain wall design is achieved through a mix of architectural treatments, glazing technologies and interior planning. Glass fritting or ceramic patterns applied during IGU manufacture provide graduated privacy while preserving daylight transmittance; frit density and pattern scale can be tuned to block sightlines without appearing visually heavy. Low-reflective interlayers, translucent spandrel panels and insulated metal panels in selected bays preserve façade rhythm while screening back-of-house areas. Switchable electrochromic glazing enables on-demand privacy—panels can shift from transparent to translucent under electrical control, useful for meeting rooms or executive suites. External or integrated louvers and motorized blinds give occupants control and limit direct sightlines while managing solar heat gain. Interior strategies—placing circulation, services or privacy zones adjacent to highly transparent façades—reduce the need for opaque façades and optimize daylight for occupied work zones. For urban contexts where street-level privacy is critical, use low sill heights with fritting or porcelain spandrels and incorporate setback planning and landscape screening. Acoustic-laminated glazing can combine visual privacy with sound control where external activity would otherwise intrude. These strategies should be modeled for daylight and view quality early in design to ensure privacy measures do not unintentionally reduce useful daylight.
