Aluminum gauges between 1.2 mm and 2.0 mm typically provide sufficient stiffness for spans up to 1.5 m. For spans beyond that—or where heavy fixtures or high foot traffic above the ceiling are expected—2.5 mm gauge panels or reinforced back-liners may be used.
Thicker panels increase material cost and weight, impacting hanger load and suspension design.
