PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
Located in Xinjiang, China, the Xinjiang Circular Stadium is a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting sporting events, concerts, and cultural exhibitions. The stadium's distinctive circular design necessitated an special solution for its façade system, ultimately utilising a bespoke aluminium panel cladding system.
The core challenge lay in achieving a seamless fit of the aluminium panels to the stadium's curved exterior walls, balancing aesthetic appeal with structural integrity. Given the architectural complexity, the design and installation of the façade proved decisive to the project's overall success.
Applied Products:
Aluminum Panels
Application Scope:
Exterior of the Sports Center

3D laser scanning, planning product drawings, selecting materials, processing, manufacturing, and providing technical guidance, installation drawings.
This center's exterior features a circular design, which required the aluminum panels to be customized to fit the center's curved surface. The curvature of the structure made it more challenging to ensure the panels aligned properly, requiring precise measurements and careful planning for a seamless installation.
The exterior façade features a circular design, with the complexity of these curved surfaces demanding exceptional precision in both measurement and fabrication. Conventional surveying methods prove insufficiently accurate and are time-consuming and inefficient, significantly increasing the risk of panel misalignment and installation errors.
Due to the curved nature of the exterior, each aluminum panel had to be custom-made to fit the precise specifications dictated by the 3D laser scanning data. Custom production meant that each panel was individually designed, taking into account the specific curvature at every point of the façade. This not only ensured a perfect fit but also minimized waste by reducing the need for rework and adjustments during installation.
Installing aluminium panels onto curved structures demands exceptional precision. Each panel must be precisely aligned with the structure to ensure the final installation meets exacting standards.
Aluminum panels provide a high strength-to-weight ratio, making them ideal for large-scale structures. Their light weight reduces the load on the framework while maintaining durability and structural stability.
The sports center's circular geometry required a façade system that could adapt to curved surfaces. Aluminum panels are highly versatile and can be easily customized to match complex architectural shapes, allowing seamless integration with modern design concepts.
Aluminum panels are resistant to corrosion, UV radiation, and extreme weather conditions, ensuring long-term performance even in Xinjiang's varied climate. This durability minimizes maintenance needs and extends the life of the façade.
With various surface coatings and finishes available, aluminum panels can achieve both functional and visual goals. Fluorocarbon coatings provide long-lasting color stability, while customized finishes allow the façade to reflect the sports center’s modern and iconic character.
Aluminum is recyclable, making it a sustainable choice for large public facilities. The use of aluminum panels aligns with modern environmental goals, reducing the environmental footprint of the building.
To ensure the aluminum panels fit the curved façade accurately, 3D laser scanning technology was used to capture the precise dimensions of the building's exterior. The laser scanners created a detailed point cloud of the structure, providing millimeter-level precision. This high level of accuracy ensured that every panel could be designed and produced to meet the exact curvature of the center's exterior.
The data captured from the 3D laser scanning was then used to create digital models of the façade. These models served as the foundation for designing the custom aluminum panels. By using the digital models, the design team could identify potential issues early, such as panel misalignment or discrepancies in curvature, and address them before production began.
These data allowed our team to customize each aluminum panel to the precise shape required for the curved structure. This led to a streamlined production process, where the panels were fabricated with minimal need for on-site adjustments. The customized production process not only improved the fit and finish of the panels but also minimized material waste, as panels were manufactured to exact specifications.
One of the key benefits of using 3D laser scanning technology is that the point cloud data provides a permanent digital record of the building's facade. This record can be used for future maintenance and inspections, allowing the project team to monitor the condition of the façade over time. It also provides a valuable reference for any future retrofits or repairs.
The Xinjiang Circular Sports Center Aluminum Panel Exterior Wall Project successfully demonstrated the power of 3D scanning technology in overcoming the challenges of curved architecture. By capturing highly accurate data, the team was able to produce and install custom aluminum panels that fit the building’s complex shape with precision.
The use of 3D measurement technology ensured that the panels were fabricated to exact specifications, significantly reducing waste and installation time. The project was completed efficiently, with minimal errors and a high-quality final product. This case study highlights the critical role of advanced technology in delivering successful and cost-effective building solutions, especially in projects that involve complex and non-traditional designs.
