Aluminum perforated wall panels can play a key role in acoustic control when integrated into a composite assembly. The perforations allow sound waves to penetrate the panel and reach absorptive backing materials—such as mineral wool, acoustic foam, or fiberglass boards—where the sound energy is converted into heat. Optimal acoustic performance requires matching perforation geometry with cavity depth and backing density: for mid-range frequencies (500 Hz–2 kHz), use 2 mm to 4 mm diameter holes with an open area of 15%–25% and cavity depths of 25 mm–75 mm.
Panel thickness (0.8 mm to 1.5 mm) ensures structural stability without impeding acoustic transparency. The backing layer should be fixed to a rigid frame behind the perforated screen, with an air gap to fine-tune low-frequency absorption. Seal panel edges with acoustic sealant to prevent flanking transmission.
