When comparing aluminum, wood, and stone, there are distinct differences in how they transmit and dampen sound. Stone, being the densest and most rigid material, is an excellent conductor of sound. Its sheer mass and rigidity offer very little in the way of sound dampening. Wood is a natural material with a cellular structure that gives it some sound-dampening qualities, certainly more than stone.
