PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
Reducing damage risk during transport, storage, and handling starts with packaging and logistics planning. Curtain wall panels should be crated with edge protection and internal bracing to prevent movement; use vertical or inclined racks for glazed units with padded supports and soft contacts to avoid glass edge chipping and frame deformation. For metal panels, protect painted or anodised finishes with sacrificial films that are UV-stable and remove easily; do not use adhesives that leave residue. Control environmental exposure during storage—store in covered, dry, and level areas away from direct sunlight and avoid salt exposure in coastal shipments. Temperature and humidity extremes can affect sealant cure and gasket performance; where possible, maintain a moderate storage climate, and store IGUs vertically to avoid bowing. Lifting and rigging must distribute load evenly and avoid concentrated stresses on corners; use suction cups for glass only where rated and operated by certified personnel. During transit, secure panels to prevent vibration and impact; use shock indicators for high-value items. Implement a tracking and inspection process at each handover point with photos and documented condition reports; damaged items should be quarantined and returned to fabricator for repair where feasible. Training of on-site crews on safe handling, and providing dedicated off-loading equipment reduces accidental damage. Clear labelling and handling instructions on crates help minimise mishandling and ensure panels arrive in condition ready for installation.
