PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
The JW Marriott Hotel Chalong Bay project is a luxury resort development located in Chalong Bay, Phuket, Thailand. The site comprises multiple buildings with complex structures and extensive outdoor spaces.
As the project entered the early design preparation stage, the client required accurate and comprehensive spatial data to support architectural planning, structural detailing, and construction coordination. Given the scale, intricacy, and environmental challenges of the site, traditional manual surveying methods would be time-consuming, error-prone, and inefficient. To address this, the client opted for an advanced and efficient 3D laser scanning solution.

| project Challenge
The main challenge of this project was the large and complex layout of the hotel site, including multiple buildings and outdoor areas. Traditional manual surveying would have taken weeks and risked data gaps and errors. In addition, the remote location and tight schedule required rapid deployment and accurate data collection to support early design and coordination.
| technology Highlight: 3D Laser Scanning
3D laser scanning is a cutting-edge surveying technique that captures detailed spatial geometry using laser scanners. The system works by emitting laser beams and calculating the time it takes for them to reflect off surfaces, generating precise coordinate data for each point in space. This results in a dense point cloud model that accurately represents the environment.
Key advantages of 3D laser scanning include:
| Project Execution
After receiving the client's request, we immediately dispatched a team of professional surveyors to the Phuket site.
Equipped with state-of-the-art 3D laser scanning instruments, the team performed a full-site scan, covering the hotel's main structure, auxiliary buildings, public areas, and outdoor spaces. A multi-station scan strategy was used to create a panoramic and detailed dataset. The entire scanning operation was completed within three days, exceeding the original coverage expectations and delivering high-precision point cloud data and a visualized model.
Compared to traditional surveying methods, our 3D laser scanning approach drastically reduced the time required, minimized human errors, and eliminated the risk of rework, saving critical time in the project’s early phase.
| deliverables and client feedback
Following the completion of the scan, we presented the preliminary results and 3D models to the client. The visualized data clearly reflected the structure, dimensions, and details of the site, allowing the client to immediately understand the spatial layout.
The client was impressed by our clear, precise and fast execution and expressed strong confidence in our technical capabilities. The client signed a formal contract on the spot and formally entrusted us to be responsible for the subsequent cladding product supply of the project.
| Project Value and significance
This successful deployment of 3D laser scanning at the JW Marriott Chalong Bay project provided a solid and reliable data foundation for subsequent BIM modeling, structural analysis, and construction planning. More importantly, it demonstrated our ability to respond swiftly to overseas project demands and deliver results with professionalism and precision.
By applying advanced technology during the pre-construction phase, we helped the client save both time and labor costs, accelerated project initiation, and supported better-informed decision-making. This established a robust groundwork for the smooth progress of the later project stages.
| On-site installation Effect
In addition to the extrior cladding system, PRANCE also supply wood-grain aluminum ceiling tiles for the lobby of the Marriott Hotel. The products are made of high-quality aluminum with a realistic wood-grain finish. After installation, the ceiling is smooth and straight, with uniform joints, and the wood-grain effect harmonizes with the hotel's design style, achieving a clean and warm decorative effect. The aluminum ceiling tiles are fireproof, moisture-proof, and non-deformable, meeting the safety and durability requirements of the hotel lobby.
| ongoing Progress and Future Updates
Following the 3D laser scanning phase, the JW Marriott Hotel Chalong Bay project is proceeding as scheduled. We will now undertake the customized design, engineering, and fabrication of the required cladding systems, along with other precision architectural components.
Further updates will be shared as we move forward—stay tuned to follow our progress from digital data to finished product on-site.
