The key challenges in this project stemmed from the unique geometry of the canopy and the need for precision throughout the measurement, production, and installation processes.
The roof's leaf shape involves complex curves and irregular geometry, which traditional measurement methods cannot accurately capture.
Each panel had to be customized to fit the curvature of the canopy structure, requiring detailed design and careful fabrication to ensure that the panels would fit perfectly without the need for on-site adjustments.
The unique design meant the aluminum panels had to be installed with high precision to ensure the curves of the roof were accurately represented and aligned.
To tackle these challenges, PRANCE team used 3D laser scanning technology, along with custom-designed aluminum panels, to deliver a high-precision and efficient construction solution.
3D laser scanning technology was used to scan the roof's shape from all angles, capturing the precise curves and geometry. This data allowed the project team to understand the roof' s overall shape, ensuring accurate design and production.
The 3D scan data was used to create a detailed digital model, which allowed our team to optimize the custom design of the aluminum panels. The model helped the design and production teams ensure the panels' dimensions and shape matched the design specifications, avoiding errors typically encountered with traditional methods.
Based on the accurate 3D data, the custom aluminum panels were produced to fit the roof's curves and angles. The precise measurements allowed for consistent panel dimensions, reducing the need for on-site adjustments and ensuring a smooth installation process.
Traditional manual measurements often require entering high places, which may pose safety risks. Through 3D scanning, engineers can remotely capture accurate data of roof curves without the need for workers to enter hazardous areas. This reduces workers' exposure to potential hazards.
The custom curved aluminum panels provided several key advantages, particularly in meeting the roof design and functional requirements.
Aluminum panels were treated with special coatings, making them highly resistant to corrosion and suitable for high-temperature and humid environments, ensuring they would remain stable and functional for a long time.
Aluminum panels are lightweight, which makes transportation and installation easier. Despite being lightweight, they offer sufficient strength to support the roof structure, making them ideal for large-scale applications like this one.
The panels can be coated in different finishes, offering flexibility in design and enhancing the modern, sleek look of the gas station. This contributed to the overall visual appeal of the building, making it stand out with a contemporary design.
The curved aluminum plate roof project of the East Gas Station in Maoming Service Area showcases the value of 3D laser scanning technology in the curved design challenges. Through precise measurement and customized design, the project team successfully solved the problem of the roof design. The use of customized aluminum panels not only enhances the visual appeal of the building but also ensures long-term durability and low maintenance costs, providing valuable insights and technical support for similar projects.
