In humid or coastal airports, corrosion resistance and long-term finish retention are top priorities when specifying aluminum ceilings. The best-performing finishes combine alloy selection, surface treatment, and robust coatings. Start with a corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy and consider anodizing for excellent abrasion resistance and passive corrosion protection. For color consistency and UV resilience, fluoropolymer coatings such as PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) are industry standard—they offer long-term color and gloss retention under high humidity and salt-laden air. Polyester coatings are more economical but less durable in aggressive coastal climates. For concealed edges and fasteners, ensure anodized or coated trims and stainless or coated fixings to prevent galvanic corrosion or staining.
